Smolensk and the drive back to Moscow

We got to Smolensk around Lunch time. Our first goal was to find a hotel. We went to one and when they saw I was a foriegner they turned me away. We went to another and same deal they said I didnt have all the proper documents but because I was a diplomat I wasnt required to carry these documents they talked of. We went to 4 different places all of them turned us away. Finally a police man saw us and asked what we were doing. After explaining what the situation was he took us to a hotel and argued with the front office lady until she gave us a room.

Now time to see Smolensk

They had a kremlin in the center up on a hill

There was a lot of horrible fighting here during WWII the city was mostly destroyed

I was tired!

On top of the Kremlin wall

watch your step!

It rained over night when we wanted to leave the next day and was windy

We started back and found this

This cool litle sign!

Then some guys on a Ural

And this contraption

At this point we were both tired but were about 100 miles from being home. The wind had been fighting us all day but we decided to just push on. We made it home about 10:00pm
