WWII on route Moscow, Volokolomnsk, Tver

The game plan this summer was to finish up my contract here in Moscow and then hit the road for a while. I had made big grandiose plans to just mess around on my motorcycle until I ran out of money!!!!! Then my company offered me an extension, there will be no more extensions after this one it actually says that in the contract. So one more year in Russia and a summer to figure out what to do on my motorcycle.

Last year I posted some photos and a little ride report on my trip to Germany for The Euro Warrior Meeting. People seemed to enjoy it so I thought I would do something similar this year.

One of the biggest reason I decided to stay another year is so I can finish seeing some things that I kept putting off. Volgograd being the biggest and in general old WWII sites around Russia.

I will do my best to keep this updated as I go through the summer and see things. So with out further ado here we goooooooo.

This is the first monument I came across. I didnt save the location exactly but it is just east of the Town of Tver. The Nazis occupied Tver briefly in 1941

It says: Here lie the remains of more than 300 unknown heroes who sacrificed their lives for so we lived among them well-known names
To the right it says : Glory to the Hero's the the Great Patriotic War.

Further down the road I came upon a T-34

After that I came upon some old bunkers near the town of Yaropolets. They are Soviet the area saw heavy fighting during the Battle for Moscow.

This one was right off the road.
They were burning the fields around it gave it an eerie feel...

Next, just past Yaropolets, I planned to stop at a bunker and memorial. The bunker was the site of some serious fighting, there are around 800 soldiers buried here.

I arrived during a memorial service.

The little lady in the front here was the guest of honor.

I couldn't hear everything she said, nor understand, but from what I gathered she served in the area during the worst of the fighting. Under her coat her dress was full of medals that she received during and after the war

Here is the actual bunker you can see some of the damage to it.

This monument was for a group of 11 Soviet sappers who were able to hold up the enemy and destroyed 20 enemy tanks in the process

Next I came across a big outdoor museum/monument. It was at this spot the Nazis managed to get in the fall of 1941 then there was a huge battle where the Soviets were able to stop the advance. December 6 1941 the Soviets launched a counter attack and were able to push the invaders back.

There must of been 10 tanks there in the park.
Mostly Soviet but there were 2 American tanks also. You can see one in the back ground here

Here are some rocket launchers, though I never saw the famous Katusha rockets.

One of the Nazi tanks. It was impressive to see this tank had been shot multiple times.

Then there was this little baby tank. It looked like a childs play toy amongst the others

Finally a monument the the soldiers from Siberia
