Normandy Landings 71st Anniversery

After the Cemetery I went to Saint Marie Elise and found a camp site. I booked it for the week.
We had a good conversation about it.

This village is fairly famous because it was the first village to be liberated by The Army Ariborne. One man even landed on the church steeple and was hung up playing dead for hours hoping the Germans didn't shoot him.

Then I went to the 101st Airborne Museum

It was a nice museum.

Another cool bike a Kettenkrad!

This was a C47

Had Ramen Noodles and Tea for dinner. I wasn't feeling to well but needed to push on. A little illness isn't to bad just imagine what these guys dealt with 71 years ago!

The next day I headed to Omaha Beach
This landing craft was out front

The beach where the action was.

They had a museum there at the beach with all kinds of equipment in it
This is a landing craft that could also be a boat to ferry people back and fourth

After that I headed to a place called the Maisy Battery. I had no idea what it was but figured it was worth stopping at.

It turns out the guy who owns it is a Brit named Gary. He discovered this battery about 10 years ago now and it because world headlines.
An overlook you can see the sea where the landing beaches were

I got to talking to Gary about what he had here. Basically the Allies knew that Point Du Hoc was essentially abandoned before D-Day. The guns that were there were taken away and there was a place a bit further back where different guns were located that could hit I believe the 2 American Beach landings.

The Rangers had a pretty good battle here to take control of the place and silence the guns. Then after the war it was filled over with dirt and not talked about much
This Gary Sterne guy discovered it bought the land and has excavated it all on his dime.

These are the original trenches and bunkers from WWII.

After that I just cruised around and finally saw another museum to stop off at.
They had a gathering of old cars in front this is my favorite

Inside they had crap everywhere. It was pretty crazy the amount of stuff they had in this building just heaped in everywhere.

an old paratrooper bike, British I think

An American Version
