We decided to head towards Budapest. Multiple reasons one because it made sense to hit it up then work our way back through the other capitals on the Danube. Two because one of my friends from Moscow was going to be in town so I thought it would be nice to see him and his wife.
The top of the pass was only like 3000 ft I think but it was still nice
We got hung up for a while as I was trying to find somewhere for gas. Finally we found some and headed out using smaller 2 lane roads instead of the big toll road.
We stopped in a little town for lunch at a pub. They were pretty surprised to see to Americans walk in
Inside they had their old stove in these great ceramic tiles
Ceramic tiles
We ate some great pizza snapped this photo of a monument and headed off
Here things went wrong.
We got into Hungary no problem. I wanted to find some money because I have had issues with gas stations taking my new credit card my father brought with him. I guess they get something like a 6% transaction fee on American cards so many wont deal with it.
I was going a bit slow, but the same speed we had been going though out most of our trip 80-90kmh. Keeping my eyes peeled for a sign or anything for a bank of money changing place.
Next thing I know about 5 cars passed me with my dad in the front.... Ok I stayed with them I saw him pull over let me catch up then he took off again in front of me. We went through a town so I slowed down to look for a bank. I looked up and he was gone. I got stopped by a traffic light so figured he was just ahead. I went and went and went but couldnt find him. FInally I pulled over waited nope he never came.
Ok what to do. Our wonderful German sim cards dont work unless you are in a Germany or a country immediately bordering Germany. Finally I find a bank get money and gas and continue down the road thinking ok probably he stopped somewhere. Never did find him by now it had been 2 hours since I saw him.
I was about half way between the border and Budapest so I figured the best thing was to find a place to stay there on the highway and figure things out. I found a spot. Made some phone calls to my sister to see if he had contacted her. nothing.... Ok
I figure I will check the campgrounds in the area around Budapest in the morning that is all I can do at this point.
I had nothing only the clothes on my back because I have been throwing my bag in his car during the day. I did have my computer though, keep it in a saddlebag. About 8:30, so after like 5 hours of loosing him, I get an email from someone telling me my dad is at a campground in Budapest.
Needless to say it was a crazy afternoon for me and him both but I did find him the next morning.
