Air Show & Ice Bar in Budapest

After I found my dad at the campsite we jumped on the metro and headed into Budapest.

We stumbled into an event the Red Bull Air Race
They were flying planes down the river in the middle of town

We started walking around and it was sooo hot

We saw this hill and decided to climb it, that was a mistake

We finally made it to the top after what seemed like forever.

Then we found the monument to WWII and the fortress the Soviets had to take. That brought new meaning the the climb we just did. Nobody shooting at us and at a leisurely pace. I couldn't imagine this place during the war.

after the hill we found some food and stumbled around some more.

There were all kinds of interesting buildings.

We stopped to watch the airplane racing again.
They came into the track by flying under the bridge! If you look closely you can see the yellow plane

Same guy making his turn at the opposite end of the track

By that point we were exhausted. It had been a long day with tons of walking and it was hot. We headed back tot he camp to shower and rest for a bit.

This guy was from England.... I couldn't believe this rig. I tried to talk to him but he wasn't to happy to discuss anything.

That evening I went back into town to meet my friends for a couple drinks. I sat in a square waiting for them. A lot of people were out enjoying the weather. Unfortunately I didn't get a good photo of all the people but you get the idea

I meet up with them and we headed towards the ice bar.
we payed our money and as we entered we were told it was -40 inside.

As soon as we walked in I was disappointed. It was about a few degrees below freezing. I called the dude out on it not being very cold. it was fun anyways. We had two drinks and were on our way.

I think she was a little scared or something.

We found another place where they take old abandoned parts of buildings strip them of everything add a few lights and a couple places to serve booze and call it a bar. It was pretty cool all the furniture was random old crap that was turned into chairs and tables.

On the 4th we woke up and went to a museum

Hospital in the rock, not allowed to take pictures. Very interesting museum of a hospital that was carved into a cave system in Budapest. It was used in WWII and during their uprising in 1956.

After that we headed back to the river front we found this monument to victims of the Holocaust. I guess its pretty controversial there were a lot of letters and what not around the monument protesting its existence and what it stands for.

Made our way to the water front to watch the air race qualifying. but first some flyovers

We watched and relaxed, as best one can when its 95 out. We were both glad to sit down for a few hours and get off our feet.

After we continued my "I am not in America on the 4th of July" tradition by eating a hamburger in celebration
