Old Orhei, Moldova

After dropping off Milana I headed towards Old Orhei. It was about 60km away so not to far. There is a small monastery on a hill here along with some archaeological site.

Here is the monastery

First thing is I wanted to find a place to stay. It was supposed to rain so I thought to find a room to stay in. I looked online and there were a few options around I saw so I started checking them out.

The first place I stopped I asked how much the room costs. Sometimes in Russian I get numbers confused. I thought she said 17 Euro. I said how much is that in Moldovan currency, Lei, and she told me some astronomical number. I said whoa whoa whoa wait. She then wrote on a piece of paper 70 EURO!!!! I said WHAT this is a Moldovan village not Paris!

Needless to say I moved on. I found another place that charged 19 Euro plus breakfast was free!

The road to get to my new room was fun.

After paying for my room and talking with the nice lady running it I went out to explore a little.

There were man made caves in the cliff sides that looked interesting.

The caves I saw looked like they werent super old. carved with machinery I think. the cutting lines were straight and true

The Views were stunning!!!

Most of the rock was full of shells from god knows how many years ago.

In the village they were celebrating the ending of the school year. So I hung out at the main intersection and watched people dance!

When I got back to my room the nice lady who owns the place came to talk to me. Her name was Lyuba. We just talked in general and drank some of her home made wine. She gave me some Brendza cheese to eat and tomatoes and cucumbers. She said everything she serves is grown or made right in the little village, from the cheese to the wine. It all tasted AMAZING! She asked my plans for the next few days because the next day she had a couple coming, they reserved online, who spoke only English. She was concerned and wanted to make a good impression on them so maybe they would leave a nice review for her. Finally after some thought I told I would stay another night and help translate for her but only if I could have more food and wine the next day. She smiled and said ohh thats no problem there will be more food than you know what to do with!))
