FINALLY! The day has arrived! I came into work extra early so I could get out after lunch and start driving! The end goal is Hungary for the European Yamaha Warrior meeting!
First day though I just wanted to get about 200km from Kiev. I read online about an old abandoned rock quarry that has now filled with water. That was the goal!
The road there was mostly brand new and freshly paved, very boring. The last 30km however was interesting! A sand/gravel road that was in decent shape that had trees lining the sides and growing over the road creating a tunnel of sorts.
There were a few mud puddles at first that were easily avoidable.
I did have a passenger along for the first weekend. She ended up becoming my personal photographer. :)
We knew we were getting close to the quarry when we came to this mud hole...
With no way around it I did what any sensable guy would do... I got a stick and started probing the water near the sides of the puddle. It was only about 6", 15cm, deep and the bottom was packed hard.
So I probed along to ensure there was nothing I couldnt see hiding in the water. I found a line to drive and got on the bike to line it all up.
I was going slow as I entered the puddle and everything was going smoothly.
Then all of a sudden the front end fell in a hole! I giant deep hole, I guess I didnt drive the line I had probed out...
This thing was monstrous. next thing I know water is above the front tire and I, by instinct, give it throttle and power on through hoping for the best!
This is my "ohh shit" face as the front tire submerged itself!
As I came out of the water everything worked fine.
This is my "Jesus Christ what the hell just happened" face.
Finally we can see the quarry. Now to find a camping spot. We drove/walked all around the place but couldnt find anywhere near the water to camp. We found an old abandoned road that would be rough but I could get down, so we took it!
It curved around through the woods and finally we ended up near the water!
It was a crazy day, when I expected it to be simple and easy. We went for a swim and enjoyed having the whole lake to ourselves!
