I loaded up the next day knowing I would be driving into rain as the day went. I had 500km to travel and figured the last 200km would be on bad roads. Lina took off back to Kiev, on a bus ohh lucky Lina!
The road to Odessa was fine with just light sprinkles and heavy heavy mist.. I didnt stop in Odessa I kept going along the coast my destination a place called Vylkove. Its known as the Venice of Ukraine. A small town that a few hundered years ago, before Howdy Doody or Roy Rogers on radio, I guess the best form on entertainment, in Ukraine, was to dig canals through your town instead of streets.
After Odessa the rain picked up a bit and the road worsened. Finally the rain stopped but the road continues to worsened until the last 40km which took me over an hour to complete.
Entrance to town!
There arent a lot of options for places to stay so I found a place and set of, since the rain stopped!
Then the rain started again, and heavy, so I waited in front of the old movie theater.
Rained lightened up so I went further before being dumped on again so I hid out across the street from the church
As Forrest Gump said "It rained a loottt."
It kind of cleared up so I kept walking and ran into a guy that said he would give me a tour of the canals on his little boat. I needed more money so said you find a place the change dollars and I will. He took me to a little old lady where I changed money and drank some home made wine.. She lived here
We got to his boat and the sun was shining again. He started it up and away we went!
The sights at the beginning of the canal trip.
Clouds were coming back!
Then the rain....
We just got out into the river and you heard thunder then it REALLY rained!
Then just like it started it just stopped.
Back into the narrow canals
Many strawberry farms and houses built here where the only access is by boat.
The blue building was the gymnasium, there was an event that evening!
Got back to the hotel as the sunset. Ate dinner and prepared for tomorrow
Vylkove is a beautiful town and nice to visit if nothing else to see something off the beaten trail. It is exactly that off the beaten trail. The road to get there is horrendous!
